The United Congregational Church of Westerly, United Church of Christ, will host a Homeless Awareness Vigil on Saturday, February 7, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the church’s upper parking lot at 9 Castle Hill Road in Pawcatuck. The community is invited to gather outdoors around a bonfire for an hour of prayer, reflection, and solidarity with neighbors experiencing homelessness.

The vigil is intended to shine a light on the growing needs of individuals and families who struggle with housing insecurity throughout the region. “Too many of our neighbors feel unseen and unheard,” said Rev. Ruth Shilling Hainsworth, Pastor of UCC Westerly. “This vigil offers us a chance to stand together, witness together, and affirm the dignity of every person in our community.”

As part of the event, the church will collect new or gently used blankets to be distributed locally to those in need. Donations will be accepted on-site throughout the vigil.

All are welcome to attend. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly and “come as you are” for this simple but meaningful gathering of compassion, community, and hope.
