Our History

The United Congregational Church of Westerly was formed in 1964 when two area churches took to heart the admonition of the newly formed United Church of Christ denomination. Two area churches wanted to find a way to “come together”, so they decided to combine!

Broad Street Christian Church and Pawcatuck Congregational Church, formerly located adjacent to what is now Evans Mobil at the intersection of Liberty Street and US 1 in Pawcatuck, worshiped initially in the Pawcatuck Congregational Church.

Quickly realizing that more space would be needed for the growing congregation, land was purchased a few blocks away on Route 234 and construction began on our beautiful and unique building.

Formally dedicated in March 1969, the church was designed by internationally acclaimed architect Paul Mitarachi at the beginning of his career.
